CHARACTER PARADE

The Character Parade is on Friday 4th June at 9.15am and all are welcome to attend.  We would love all the children to participate in this event as it is a lot of fun.  We prefer costumes to be made from bits and pieces around home made with lots of imagination.  We are surprised every year by the fabulous costumes the students have created.

We look forward to seeing you there.

SPORTS SHIRTS

We are having a “sports shirt” round up! Do you have a Turua School sport shirt at home? Do you have 2? Can you please return to school any shirts that are not being worn for a current sporting event i.e. hockey.

Please bring shirts TO THE OFFICE – you can leave them on the desk.

If you have a shirt that is being used at the moment can you please email or ring and let me know what number you have (on the inside of neck line).   admin@turua.school.nz  or leave a message on the absence line 078675003.

We really appreciate your help with this.

GARDEN TO TABLE

This week in Garden to Table students were busy planting seedlings and learning about what flowers attract pollinators  in our vege gardens. In the kitchen students made pita breads with herb salad and pumpkin chickpea koftas. Students gave rave reviews of 9 or 10 stars out of 10!””

COMMUNITY NOTICES

Kia Ora ,
Ngatea Pharmacy is passionate about Children’s Health and we have been granted access to free services for our Families most in need.
I am just letting you know the services that we have been granted from the DHB to service our Tamariki and their Whanau in our area.
We are so lucky to have these services available to us and we are trying hard to get the word out to our communities that desperately need them.
Please let Maraes in your area know also.
Throat Swabbing For Strep Throat to Prevent Rheumatic Fever
Ngatea Pharmacy can swab any children 4-19years old presenting with Strep Throat Symptoms:
Sore throat
Swollen Glands
Tiredness
Fevers
Off their Kai (don’t want to eat)
If the swab comes back positive, we will ring either parents (or school if nominated and cell phones are a barrier)  and we will prescribe antibiotics to treat the infection.
It is important to remember that the more times our Tamariki get Strep Throat and we don’t treat it properly, the more chance our kids will develop Rheumatic Fever and get Heart Damage.
Our Maori and Pacific children are far more likely to get Rheumatic Fever than other children in our communities.
This is an entirely FREE service.
No Booking Required.
Eczema, Dermatitis and School Sore Treatment
Ngatea Pharmacy is one of only 5 Pharmacies in NZ (Ngatea, Huntly, Ngaruawahia, Te Kauwhata )
who have been granted access to help our Tamariki and their Whanau to manage skin conditions.
Any parents presenting with Children 2-16years with School Sores, or eczema are treated FREE OF CHARGE , they receive a consult with the pharmacist to review the skin. They also get a personalized treatment Kete with creams or antibiotics, bandages, information, plasters, nail clippers, gauze, dressings, and muslin cloth for cleaning the areas. ALL FREE OF CHARGE.
It is important to educate our Whanau on how to keep our kids skin healthy, if they aren’t itchy or sore, they can learn and thrive at school and prevent the problem getting much worse and needing to go to Hospital.
The eczema treatment is also available to be repeated whenever flare ups happen (which always happens with Eczema!), it can also run in families so if we teach how to catch it early and prevent it from flaring up as often, its better for everyone! Moisturizer creams are the best way to keep eczema away and these are free as often as you need it.
Flu Vaccination for Staff
Flu Vaccination is in full swing. Any teachers needing flu shots ages 16-65 can pop into Ngatea Pharmacy no appointment necessary. $30 per person.  People with pre-existing medical conditions like Asthma, Diabetes or Heart Disease get a vaccination from us free of charge.
These free vaccinations also apply to parents with medical conditions  so please let Whanau and Maraes know of this service.
Any questions, please do not hesitate to give us a ring.
We are passionate about these services and so happy and proud to be able to offer them and improve the health of our Whanau.
