Volume 19 – 24 June 2021 – Term 2

I am pleased to see that everyone received notification of the Marae Trip cancellation at such short notice.  Unfortunately they had to delay our visit due to a Health and Safety issue.  We will look at a date in Term 3 and let you know as soon as it is confirmed.

We’re Stronger Together

On Wednesday the 16th of June the year 8 leaders of our school went to National Young leaders day in Hamilton and listened to the following amazing speakers:

Jacinda Ardern who even sent us a video message about being a good leader.

Benny Tipene who went on X-Factor and got 3rd place with the song Walking on Water.

Shay Wright who has been a finalist for the 2016 & 2017 young Enterprise Alumni Award.

Brooke Neal is a former hockey player, she retired in 2020 and she won gold at the Commonwealth games in the Gold Coast 2018 and came 4th in the 2016 Olympic games in Rio.

Cam Calkoen spoke about how as a child he dreamed of a world where he could travel but Cam was born with Cerebral Palsy and he was told that the biggest challenges would be talking and walking and that he would always need help from others. Now as an adult he has actually climbed Kilimanjaro and traveled around the world and he has won lots of medals for various sporting achievements.

We had an awesome day hearing about their inspirational stories and feeling stronger as rangitaahi (young leaders).  We definitely recommend NYLD to next year’s student leaders.

The Photolife team will be in School on Friday 2nd July to do class, individual and sibling photos.  Your child should have brought home a flyer setting out the new way photos can be ordered.  Envelopes and money for class and individual photos no longer needs to be returned to school  as ordering is done online.                                           Please read the flyer as it contains important information.

If you want a sibling photo then you do need to collect an envelope from the office.

If you do not want your child to be included in the class photo or to have an individual photo taken you must let the office know before 2nd July.

This is important! If you don’t tell us the they will be in the photo.

Nominations need to be into the school by noon on Friday 2nd July. Nomination forms are on the desk in the office. For further information on being a Board Member please contact Tracey Fisher.
