KIA ORA/GREETINGS TO ALL PARENTS AND FRIENDS OF THE SCHOOL

I am pleased to see that everyone received notification of the Marae Trip cancellation at such short notice.  Unfortunately they had to delay our visit due to a Health and Safety issue.  We will look at a date in Term 3 and let you know as soon as it is confirmed.

We’re Stronger Together

On Wednesday the 16th of June the year 8 leaders of our school went to National Young leaders day in Hamilton and listened to the following amazing speakers:

Jacinda Ardern who even sent us a video message about being a good leader.

Benny Tipene who went on X-Factor and got 3rd place with the song Walking on Water.

Shay Wright who has been a finalist for the 2016 & 2017 young Enterprise Alumni Award.

Brooke Neal is a former hockey player, she retired in 2020 and she won gold at the Commonwealth games in the Gold Coast 2018 and came 4th in the 2016 Olympic games in Rio.

Cam Calkoen spoke about how as a child he dreamed of a world where he could travel but Cam was born with Cerebral Palsy and he was told that the biggest challenges would be talking and walking and that he would always need help from others. Now as an adult he has actually climbed Kilimanjaro and traveled around the world and he has won lots of medals for various sporting achievements.

We had an awesome day hearing about their inspirational stories and feeling stronger as rangitaahi (young leaders).  We definitely recommend NYLD to next year’s student leaders.
