KIA ORA/GREETINGS TO ALL PARENTS AND FRIENDS OF THE SCHOOL

Welcome back to Term 3!  It has been a busy week of welcoming students back and planning coming events that fit within the Level 2 guidelines for schools.  Next week we have Calf Club and below is a reminder about how this will operate at our current alert level.  A big thank you to those parents who have put in so much time to make this event happen for our students.  Below is an exert from Iona Holsted – the secretary for Education about events, gatherings and education outside the classroom.  We will be referring to this guidance when making decisions about organising events safely.  The Coming Events calendar displays dates for our planned events but all organisation will be clarified closer to the time to ensure we are meeting all Ministry of Health regulations.
Alert Level 3

At Alert Level 3, there should not be any events, activities or gatherings held onsite beyond those related to curriculum requirements. Numbers involved in any curriculum-related activity should be kept to a minimum.

Physical activities, including singing and dancing, should only be held outside.

There should be no non-essential visitors onsite at Alert Level 3.

Alert Level 2

While there is discretion in what you may do at Alert Level 2 (subject to meeting public health requirements), we encourage you to consider adopting a similar stance to government decisions more generally – that is, take a precautionary approach when deciding whether to host a gathering or large event.

As noted in our bulletin on 30 September, events and activities where participants and attendees are there for education purposes are exempt from the rules of gatherings.

However, even if your event is considered to be for education purposes, unless it is really necessary to give effect to the curriculum, we recommend you avoid such events until Alert Level 1. An example of this is prizegivings – though they are an important aspect of school life, they are not a curriculum requirement.

In lieu of holding a prizegiving or another event in person, you may choose to hold a virtual event.

With careful planning, education outside the classroom (EOTC) activities are able to go ahead at Alert Level 2.
