KIA ORA/GREETINGS TO ALL PARENTS AND FRIENDS OF THE SCHOOL
A big thank you to Carl Urwin, Estelle McCoid and their team who organised our Calf Club event on Tuesday. It was certainly much more challenging adhering to the Alert level 2 guidelines. Good luck to all our students who have entered into the Group Day event next week. This morning we held an outside assembly to congratulate our champion of champions, DIY winner and merit award winners. Congratulations to Arya’s family for the wonderful winning pig!

The PTA would like to thank everyone who came along on our calf club day this week. The children looked like they had put massive effort into looking after their animals and it was great to see how proud they all were of themselves.
We would like to acknowledge the hard work of the parents involved in organising the event, so much work goes on behind the scenes, so to those gathering sponsorship, setting up the rings, mowing, sorting ribbons, and raffles. On the day we have parents setting up, ring stewards Carl and Hayden, Tracey Fisher and Megan Way looking after all the points and admin, Anikha and Shelley looking after our stalls, and of course our BBQ guru James. All of this work is essential to the day running smoothly and indeed at all, so a massive thank you to all of you we really can’t do it without you.
A special thanks also to the judges on the day, including Veronica Bond for judging of the DIY competition. We also thank Lyn Staples for looking after them so well.
And finally to the Turua School Students, those who participated with animals, those that helped to set up in the morning, and of course to our hard working ribbon runners. Thank you all.
Roll on next year when we can possibly run the event again as a community celebration! We still have plenty of raffles for sale and these will be drawn on Tuesday, if you would like any please let us know.
Kia Ora and welcome to our first Board of Trustees update to our school community. We meet monthly to discuss governance of our school. So we can keep you informed of what’s going on – and to celebrate our achievements together – after each meeting we’ll share an update here in the school newsletter.
Our last meeting was held Tuesday 19 October where we discussed the ongoing implications of current and developing COVID alert level restrictions on our school activities. We were updated on the Calf Club Day organisation and wish to extend our many thanks to the School PTA for their commitment to providing this experience for our children and working within the rules to ensure this event can go ahead while maintaining the safety of all involved. Other end-of-year events were also discussed, as to how best to still provide learning opportunities and achievement recognition for our children within the COVID rules. Details will be shared as and when needed to keep our community safe under alert level rules so please keep a good eye on our newsletters over the coming weeks as we wind up another year. Information was provided to the Board of Trustees around the government mandate of vaccination for teachers and support staff. We will continue to monitor this as more information becomes available from the Ministry of Education.
The property development of the upgrade of our school hall was discussed. After ongoing conversations with the Ministry of Education these upgrades are now out for tender so the project can progress. With the end-of-year fast approaching we discussed plans to prepare and open the school pool as the weather warms up after Christmas, so keep an eye out for this info. Our next meeting will be held 15 November at 6pm in the school staff room.
