This week the government announced our move to the Traffic Light System but the ministry have announced that Schools will retain their existing COVID-19 settings until the end of the 2021 calendar year.  The COVID-19 Protection Framework settings will come into effect for all schools from 1 January 2022.

Next week we have life Education visiting with us from Tuesday through to Thursday.  For those who are unfamiliar with the Health programme I have included a brief explanation below.

Today children and young people face a lot of challenges, including: obesity, substance use, mental health and well-being and bullying. The decisions we make as young people can dramatically affect how we live our lives in the future – and this is why Life Education exists. Through education Life Education Trust help students to understand how decisions they make today can affect their future health and well-being.

The Healthy Harold programme supports children to:

  • Develop life skills relating to their health and wellbeing
  • Understand how to make healthy choices
  • Gain knowledge about health and their bodies
  • Develop self esteem and a positive understanding of themselves
  • Develop strategies for relating to others

Our teaching covers content across five major strands: food and nutrition, human biology, relationships & communities, identity and resilience, and substances.

Our swimming pool will be open for the community from Monday 10th January 2022.  Keys may be obtained from the school office from Monday.  The cost is $50 and a $10 bond. You will need to sign an agreement form- available at the office.

Well that’s a wrap for Kaitaki and their Garden to Table experience this year. For our last day we had a real celebration after doing our mahi.
Out in the garden the crew cracked on with several tasks including weeding, staking, and general clearing getting ready for a summer bounty.  In the kitchen the team made some delicious coleslaw, and prepared some extras to accompany a slightly non garden treat of some fish. Many many thanks to the Tahitahi family for their generous donation of some snapper.  To finish we dined alfresco in the garden, a lovely relaxing way to finish up.
Thank you to all the volunteers that have helped out with Kaitaki during our sessions, we hope you have enjoyed the experience and look forward to seeing you next year.

Please get any book club orders in this week. Thanks
